Run ads that link straight to a menu category

The story

SituationYour Ramadan Rice Sets go on sale next week: five sets at different prices, each with its own photo. You want one ad that shows off the whole range.

ChallengeA link to one set hides the other four. A link to your homepage buries all five among your full menu, and on a phone, scrolling to find them is where customers give up.

MissionSend every click straight to the Rice Sets section of your menu, so customers compare the five sets and pick one without searching.

This guide shows you how to copy a category's direct link from Web Admin and use it in your ads, posts and messages.

Quick answer

In Web Admin, go to Menu > All Categories, find the category, and click Copy link on its row (or open the category and click Copy link at the top right). Paste the link into your ad's website URL field.

What is a direct category link?

A direct category link is a URL that leads users straight to a product category page, like "Rice Sets," "Snacks," or "Beverages." Instead of sending traffic to your homepage, you guide them directly to a curated selection of products within that category.

Example:
https://order.purplemonkey.com.my/menu/?category=#catasfKzbFdMnm5zLqXd

The link is your ordering site's menu address followed by ?category=#cat and the category's ID. It opens your online menu and jumps to that category, with the rest of your menu still a scroll away.

Why category links are useful for ads

When you want to promote a range of related products, like seasonal bundles or bestsellers, a category link offers a focused shopping experience without overwhelming the customer.

Here’s why it matters:

  • Higher Engagement: Customers browse a curated selection, not the entire store.

  • Lower Bounce Rates: They land on a relevant collection, not a generic homepage.

  • Easier Cross-sells: Displaying related items increases basket size.

  • Faster Navigation: Especially helpful on mobile, where browsing is harder.

  • Better Campaign Segmentation: Useful for retargeting based on interest groups.

Promoting one star item rather than a range? Use a product link instead: see Run ads that link straight to one menu item. Retargeting by interest also needs a Facebook Pixel on your ordering site.

Before you start

  • You can sign in to Web Admin with an account that can open Menu > All Categories.

  • The category already exists and holds the items you want to promote. If it does not, see Create a new category.

  • The category is available at the times your ad runs. A category limited to certain hours shows as unavailable outside them; see Category Availability.

Setup guide: how to copy a category link

Follow these steps to generate and use a direct category link from the admin dashboard:

Step 1: Log in as Web Admin

Access your backend admin panel.

Step 2: Navigate to the category management page

  • Click on Menu > All Categories from the left sidebar

Step 3: Find the category

  • Use the search bar or scroll manually to locate the specific category you want to promote (e.g., "Breakfast Sets" or "Desserts")

Step 4: Copy the link

  • Click into the category detail page

  • On the top right, click the "Copy Link" button. The category URL is now copied to your clipboard, and you will see Category link copied.

You can also skip opening the category: on its row in All Categories, click Copy link. You will see Link copied.

Note

The two buttons copy slightly different links. Copy link on the row copies the menu address shown in the example above (with /menu/). The button on the category's page copies the same link starting from your homepage instead.

If you want the link to match the example, use the row button, and paste the link into your browser once to check it lands on the category.

Step 5: Use the link in ads or campaigns

You can paste the link into:

  • Facebook or Instagram Ads (website URL field)

  • Facebook posts or stories (using a "Shop Now" or "View All" CTA)

  • Email newsletters

  • WhatsApp broadcasts

Marketing tip

Tip: You can append UTM tracking tags to track clicks and conversions by source, campaign, and ad group. The #cat part has to stay at the very end of the link, so add the tags before it, and open the tagged link in your browser once before the ad goes live.

That is it. One ad, five Rice Sets, and every click lands right where the choosing happens.

If something goes wrong

  • The link opens the menu at the top, not at the category: check that the link still ends with #cat and the category ID. If it does not, copy the link again and paste it as a whole.

  • The category shows as unavailable: it is outside its available hours, or not offered at the customer's branch. See Category Availability.

  • Nothing is copied when you click Copy link: some browsers block the clipboard on insecure or embedded pages. Open Web Admin in a normal browser tab and try again.

In summary

Category-level links are ideal when you're promoting a collection rather than a single item. It provides focus without being restrictive, perfect for bundling products, promoting new arrivals, or driving seasonal sales.

Mission accomplished: what you have achieved

  • The whole range, one click. Customers land on the Rice Sets and compare all five.
  • Less scrolling on mobile. Nobody has to hunt through the full menu to find the promotion.
  • Campaigns you can measure. UTM tags show which ad and channel sent each visit.

Next season's collection gets the same treatment: one category, one link.
